Day 14 of the Tokyo Olympic games began with a heartbreaking loss in the bronze medal match of the Indian women’s hockey team. Other events such as the 50 Km Walk Olympics and wrestling didn’t bear favourable outcomes. Moreover, in women’s golf, Aditi Ashok has performed well. It is safe to say that she is in the medal race, as after three rounds, Aditi is in the second position. Nelly Korda of the USA is at the number one position after the third round.
50 Km Walk Olympics: Gurpreet Singh Drops Out
Indian athlete Gurpreet Singh couldn’t finish the 50 Km Walk Olympics event as he dropped out after 35 km. According to sources, he suffered from cramps because of the scorching heat of Tokyo. Gurpreet Singh was in the bottom rank, given his 51st position and the time taken is 2 hr 55 minutes. He required medical attention after he walked away from the game. Gurpreet has won gold in the National Open Race Walk Championships with a personal best of 3 hrs 59 minutes and 42 seconds.
Total 59 athletes were competing in the event but 12 of them did not finish it. Dawid Tomla of Poland, Jonathan Hilbert of Germany and Evan Dunfee of Canada bagged gold, silver and bronze respectively.
Indian Women’s Hockey Team Loses To Great Britain
Indian women’s hockey team was taken down by Great Britain. However, the competition was so intense that it kept every viewer at their toes. Great Britain quickly took two points lead initially. To which, the Indian team replied with a solid comeback of back-to-back two goals. Another goal gave India the advantage of one point. Although, Great Britain equalised the score in the third quarter and grabbed another point later. India lost by 3-4.
Meanwhile, Bajrang Punia got defeated in the semifinal match. He will fight for bronze tomorrow. Neeraj Chopra in the men’s javelin throw event and Aditi Ashok in the women’s golf will be eyeing for their maiden Olympic podium finish.
